agressor | 2003-06-19 18:14 | Atari announces that Enter the Matrix is its fastest-selling game ever, and the 14th to sell over 2.5 million units.
Atari has today announced that worldwide sales of Enter the Matrix, which was released a little over a month ago, have now exceeded 2.5 million units. The game is Atari's fastest-selling ever, and makes The Matrix the 14th franchise in the company's catalogue to surpass the 2.5 million mark--joining the likes of the Driver, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Civilization, Monopoly, Test Drive, Backyard Sports, Deer Hunter, and Dragon Ball Z.
"Having a hit title right out of the box is enormously gratifying but seeing the steady worldwide demand for Enter The Matrix is even more compelling," said Bruno Bonnell, chairman and CEO of Atari. "We have a long history of multi-million selling games, and our experience tells us that titles with this level of sales success typically have a long shelf life. From what we have seen to date, Enter The Matrix is right on course."
Whether or not Atari has actually made any money from Enter the Matrix as yet is up for debate, and since over 4 million copies of the game were shipped on day one it seems reasonable to assume that there are still plenty available on store shelves.
